RFE/RL: Ukrainian president thanks Latin American leaders for support during visit to Argentina

On 10 December, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy made his first trip to Latin America to meet regional leaders as the country sought support from the world amid Russia’s war, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty has informed.

The Ukrainian leader also attended the inauguration of Argentinian President Javier Milei.

“This is a new beginning for Argentina, and I express my wish that President Milei and all the Argentinian people will surprise the world with their success,” he said.

Zelenskyy claimed Ukraine would continue bilateral cooperation with Argentina.

“The support and strong united voice of Latin American countries that stand with the people of Ukraine in our fight for freedom and democracy is very important for us,” Zelenskyy said after meeting with the leaders of Ecuador, Paraguay, and Uruguay in Buenos Aires.

During the meeting with Uruguayan President Luis Lacalle Pou, Zelenskyy said Ukraine was grateful to the South American country “for supporting Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

He also thanked Paraguayan President Santiago Pena “for his decisive support of Ukraine within international organizations.”
