Belarus dictator discusses possible attack on Suwalki Corridor in Lithuania

Self-proclaimed Belarusian president Alexander Lukashenka has discussed a possible attack on the Suwałki Corridor – the territory of Lithuania and Poland located between Belarus and the Kaliningrad Oblast of the Russian Federation.

A fragment of the conversation between Lukashenka and the commander of the Northwest Operational Command Alexander Naumenko was posted by the Belarusian pro-government Telegram channel.

In the video, the Belarusian dictator, who is accompanied by a white spitz dog, inquires about the width of the Suwałki Corridor and asks details about its possible capture.

The self-proclaimed president of Belarus asks the military commander if he will be able to hold this territory “with his troops.” Naumenko assures him that “all actions are planned, the issue of combat readiness is being worked out, the personnel are being prepared.”

The gap between the main part of Russia and its exclave – the Suwałki Corridor – is considered a very likely target in the event of a potential Russian war against Eastern NATO members. In October 2023, the first deputy secretary of the Belarusian Security Council, Pavel Muraveiko, already proposed to “punch through the corridor” to the Kaliningrad Oblast of Russia, causing outrage from Lithuania.
